What are the benefits of the Virginia Peninsula Discount Prescription Program?
The Virginia Peninsula Discount Prescription Program provides discounts for its cardholders at certain participating pharmacies for drugs and other healthcare supplies. You can save on the cost of both brand name and generic prescriptions immediately. Additionally save on over-the-counter medications like smoking cessation aids and diabetes supplies. This program is not a prescription insurance policy.

How do I use this Virginia Peninsula Discount Prescription Card?
If you don't already have one, simply print out a card, write your name on it, and present it at your local pharmacy along with your prescription. While there, ask your pharmacist to input your card ID into the pharmacy's system to keep from having to present your card each time you fill a prescription. Before going to your pharmacy it may be helpful to first check the online list of discounted pharmaceuticals for the prescription drug you need, and review the list of participating pharmacies in your area.

How does this work with my medical insurance?
This is a discount drug program. This is not insurance. For employees with medical insurance, present both the Virginia Peninsula Discount Prescription Card and your insurance card then choose the greater discount. Double discounts are not allowed.

How do I find a participating pharmacy to fill my prescription?
There are over 58,000 participating pharmacies including chains such as CVS Pharmacy, Kmart Pharmacy, Walgreens Drug Stores,Wal-Mart Pharmacy, and Rite Aid. To locate the pharmacy nearest you, simply enter the pharmacy name, along with state and/or zip code in the “Locate a Pharmacy” box on the Pharmacy Locator page.

How do I know how much a particular medication will cost me?
To find out how much a drug will cost before heading to the pharmacy, follows these easy steps:

STEP 1: Launch the Rx Pricing Tool.
STEP 2: Enter the name of the drug you would like to search. (Hint: Not sure how to spell the drug name? Try entering the first few letters.)
STEP 3: Select the medication you want from the search results and then enter quantity, days supply required, and your zip code.

Results will show your estimated cost, participating pharmacies in your zip code, as well as lower-priced alternatives, if available.

What does the Virginia Peninsula Discount Prescription Card cost?
The Virginia Peninsula Discount Prescription Card is a free community outreach program of the Virginia Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. It costs you nothing, and there is no obligation.

How do I find a generic alternative to my drug?
Our Rx Pricing Tool results will show lower-priced alternatives, if available. Some drugs may not have a generic alternative. You may need to contact your physician to write a different prescription for the less costly medication.

What prescription medications are discounted through this program?
Thousands of brand name and generic medications, along with several over-the-counter medications, such as smoking cessation aids and diabetes supplies, are included. Many lifestyle drugs which treat conditions such as baldness, impotence, wrinkles, and obesity are covered as well. In addition, many pet medications as prescribed by your veterinarian have a "human counterpart" that may be discounted. Check with your pharmacy to see if there is a "human counterpart" and then search our discounted drugs to see if it is on the list of covered pharmaceuticals. Ask your veterinarian for a prescription and have it filled at a participating pharmacy, rather than your veterinarian's office, to take advantage of available discounts.
